From the preface

“Philosophy must be lived, and that is the purpose of this book: to help you live a life that amplifies the good.”

From the preface

Inside the book

Read a page

Begin on today’s date, wherever you are in the year. Don’t worry if you miss a day. Read it the next morning, or let it go and pick up with today. If something hits hard, stay with it for a week. The book will wait.

January 2

The Weight of Yes

Your life will be determined as much by the things you say no to as by the things you say yes to.

“Yes” is a comforting word. It pleases others and smooths the moment, but it does not always serve your purpose. When you agree to everything, you slowly surrender ownership of your time, energy, and direction. Before you say yes, pause and look inward. Do you truly want what you just agreed to? Does it resonate with who you are, or are you simply trying to satisfy someone else’s expectations? Consider the decisions you have made throughout your life. How many are truly aligned with who you are at your core, five, ten, twenty, perhaps none? Alignment requires honesty, and honesty sometimes requires refusal.

Every “no” creates space for the things that truly matter. Every “yes” should be a deliberate step towards the person you intend to become. You decide who and what you become. You decide where and how you go. The responsibility and the freedom rests firmly in your hands. Who and what will you say no to today?

Today’s CureBefore you agree to anything today, wait ten seconds and ask: does this serve the person I am becoming?

Today’s CureDemand one thing more of yourself today, just for your own growth.

The shape of a day

Maxim, reflection, cure

The maxim

A line I wrote at some point over the last five years. Read it slowly. Some will land immediately; others may take a few readings, or a few years.

The reflection

A short commentary on what the maxim means to me and how it plays out in real life. It isn’t the final word. Argue with it. Add your own notes in the margin.

Today’s Cure

One small, practical action to take before the day ends. This is the most important part of the page. A thought that never becomes an action is only entertainment.

About the author

Kemal Brown

Kemal Brown is a serial entrepreneur, stoic, philosopher, and thought leader whose work explores the relationship between the mind, human potential, and the reality we create for ourselves. At the heart of his philosophy is a conviction that the mind is not merely an instrument for interpreting the world, but a powerful force in shaping it. He believes that the thoughts we entertain, the beliefs we cultivate, and the frameworks through which we perceive our circumstances ultimately influence the lives we build.

A global citizen with a deeply introspective outlook, Brown is fascinated by the intersections of consciousness, personal philosophy, love, human behavior, and the pursuit of meaning. Mind Cures is his first published book, a collection of reflections drawn from his own experiences and evolving understanding of the human condition. It invites readers to examine the thoughts that govern their lives, question the beliefs that constrain them, and reconsider the extent to which the quality of their inner world shapes their experience of the outer one.

Kemal lives in Kingston, Jamaica.
